A cockapoo puppy, to prove it’s a good portmanteau
-
Peonymous
Is a not-very-complicated anagram of eponymous. OK, so it started out as a typo, but that’s where the best words come from these days. Not those rubbish ones where somebody just melds two words together (except cockapoo, that’s a nice one).
One fine day I saw the words un beau jour written somewhere and thought, oh, that must mean one fine day. What a wonderful phrase that is. How many fabulous stories have started with the words ‘one fine day’? Probably not as many as have started ‘one nasty/horrible/gruesome day’, because readers are more sadistic these days…
Then I thought, how many things have I realised on ‘one fine day’? Probably not as many as on one nasty/horrible/gruesome day, because minds seem to work that way. Don’t they? Sometimes you store up the things you see, hear and learn on those ugly days, only to realise what they truly mean on un beau jour. A beautiful day. That’s what I reckon, anyway.
